Joris Billen
How would you describe your role as project office manager / technical specialist in modular construction?
As a technical specialist in modular construction, I not only need to advise and support our clients on a technical level but also ensure that our products and services meet all requirements and specifications.
I work closely with our sales team, which gives me a better understanding of what our clients really want and how I can provide them with the right solutions. Additionally, I stay in close contact with our production and installation teams. Only through this approach can our modular units meet the highest quality and safety standards.
How would your colleagues describe you?
I am easy to get along with and always remain calm, even in stressful situations.
Moreover, I always try to consider everyone's schedule when setting the timing for a project, which my colleagues really appreciate.
When is your workday really successful?
That depends on various aspects, but let's say I like to refer back to the registered trademarks 'The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People'.
In his eponymous book, Stephen R. Covey describes the principles of effective self-leadership, influence, collaboration, and improvement.
- Property 1: Be proactive
- Property 2: Start with the end in mind
- Property 3: Important things first
- Property 4: Think win-win
- Property 5: First seek to understand ... then to be understood
- Property 6: Synergy
- Property 7: Sharpen the saw
Imagine you could change jobs for a day. Which department would you like to work in?
If I could change jobs for one day, I would like to work as an external sales representative. Spending a day in their shoes could give me a good insight into the different steps of the sales process and the customer experience, especially how the sales colleagues perceive this.
What aspects do they pay attention to when preparing their sales pitch? How do they feel which products are best to suggest to certain customers? These are all very interesting aspects of the job. Moreover, this direct customer contact could only give my communication and social skills an extra boost.
This experience would only strengthen the team spirit and collaboration between the technical and sales teams. We all work together towards one goal: ‘Creating smart spaces where people can live, work, and learn’.
